Portrait photo shoot behind the scene - Erika
The photo shoot with Erika was almost canceled because of the weather. We were hoping for a sunny day but it was very cloudy in the morning. The sky started to clear out when we started late afternoon ( 2.5 hours before sunset) but the sun is playing hide and seek with us. It’s a real challenge when you shooting everything in manual mode: manual exposure, manual flash mode. I had to constantly change my camera and strobe settings. Late Friday afternoon by the beach should be a pretty relaxed situation but the reality was the opposite. I even missed couple of shots because the sun disappeared or re-appeared so fast.
Iona beach is my favourite place to do photo shoot. It has probably the largest sandy beach near Vancouver but what I like the most is the wavy grass and logs. The grass reflects sunlight. Great for bokeh. We’ll we didn’t have much of that because of the weather. But the wavy grass still add a lot of motion the photo. They matches Erika’s hair pretty well too.
With as little as $10 you can watch the behind the scene which shows the lighting position of all the shots in this set.
Every single logs has different shape. The solid log and wavy grass compliment each other so well. When show up at the right time. You can find good background everywhere.
Lighting Gear used: Profoto B2, Profoto OCF silver beauty dish (no diffusion panel) Gobe 4 stops ND filter.
